How to Treat Dad Like a King on Father’s Day

 In Uncategorized

Let’s face it, dads often get the bum rap. How many times in our cultural dialogue do we see fathers minimized? Women are generally perceived to do more of the work around the house and with their children, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that men are all sloppy, drooling idiots either, as they are often portrayed in sitcoms, etc.

One of my favorite things working at All American Self Storage in San Mateo, CA is talking to people as they come in. I learn so much. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about Father’s Day. So, to help get my creative juices flowing, I decided to ask some fathers what they wanted for Father’s Day and am publishing them here.

Joe – age 35, 4 kids

What I want is to sleep in a little bit, get a breakfast in bed, and then just hang out with my kids and wife. I really don’t care about gifts, and it seems that all I seem to get is a tie or some cologne. I take my kids into the dollar store with $10 for Mother’s Day, and let them go crazy, without breaking the bank, of course. If my wife did that, I would love it!

Matt – age 27, 1 newborn

Wow! I can’t believe that I am a father this year! It’s so hard and I really don’t know what I think. My mom felt that since kids were out of school in June that they didn’t get to do all the cool things for dads that happened for Mother’s Day. She would try and do something like that for us to give our dad each year. One year, she bought a tie and let us gather anything that we wanted from around the house. We glued pipe cleaners, nuts and bolts, feathers, googly eyes, and popsicle sticks to this tie. It was a 3-D glorious creation. My dad still wears it every single Father’s Day to church – it’s quite a tradition.

Scott – age 50 – 7 children

My favorite Father’s Day gifts were a personalized t-shirt with all of my kids’ names on it as well as a similar tie. It seems that we always do this type of things for mothers but somehow it is not the same for fathers. Guys can be sentimental as well!

What creative ideas have you had for Father’s Day? I think we may try a few of these – especially that tie idea with hardware. Come let us know (or show off your amazing gifts) at All American Self Storage in San Mateo.
