All American's founders and investors are all long-time residents and members of the San Mateo/Burlingame/Hillsborough/Foster City community. As you may expect, since we live here, we find that investing in our community is part of our commitment to longer-term development of the area.
Long before they founded All American, Bill Kenney and the late E.D. Nuckels actively participated in civic, community and non-profit groups as members and in board positions. So, it was inevitable that All American would find deeper ways to dedicate themselves to the community. And, that they have. In 2007, we found ways to help over 12 local non-profits and schools. We wouldn't have it any other way.
All American provides free and substantially discounted rates to the following organizations:
PARCA
PARCA is a private, nonprofit organization serving people with
developmental disabilities and their families. Developmental
disabilities include mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy,
epilepsy and other similar neurological disorders. Formed in 1952,
PARCA's mission is to provide high-quality programs, services and
advocacy to children, adults and families in the Bay Area from the
Silicon Valley to Marin to the East Bay. Mr. Kenney served several years
on the Board of this organization.

Samaritan House
Samaritan House provides an interim "safety net" for individuals and
families in need while ultimately helping them move toward self
sufficiency. Over 12,000 clients benefit yearly from Samaritan House, a
private nonprofit organization.
Dedicated to supplies essential services to meet their client's needs,
they provide food, clothing, shelter, health care, worker resources, and
counseling services, all free of charge. As a community-supported
organization, they receive over 70% of their operating budget from
private groups and individuals. Mr. Kenney served 17 years as a member
of the Board of this organization.

San Mateo and Foster City Cub Scouts Programs
Committed to creating self-confidence through experience and mastery,
the Cub Scouts stress kindness, bravery, honesty, and all-out pursuit of
excellence to its members. Regardless of economic, social or access
challenges, these local Scout chapters provide boys aged 6-11 years with
activities and programs that ultimately create a better society
populated by men of character.

Lions Club International, San Mateo Chapter
Our long-time facility manager, Pat Hughes, is an active participant in
the San Mateo Lions Club. Known for working to end preventable
blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to
their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to
providing supplies to victims of natural disasters. With an
international network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and
geographic areas, they work together to answer the needs that challenge
communities around the world.

Rotary International, San Mateo Noon Club
Our founders, Bill Kenney and the late E.D. Nuckels were both members
and Presidents of this club. Mr. Kenney is a current 40+ year member.
Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business,
professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as
Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical
standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

St. Catherine's of Siena Church
As a long time parishioner, Mr. Kenney, serves the church in a variety
of capacities - attending early Sunday morning services, serving on
their Capital Campaign committee and being a friend to the priests that
rotate through the parish.
Toys for Tots - San Mateo Fire Department
While San Mateo is one the wealthiest cities in the state, it's not
without families who need a helping hand, particularly at the holidays.
Since shortly after our facility opened, the San Mateo Firefighters have
had space to store their holiday inventory. Currently they receive a 400
square foot unit gratis at the facility and they get a tiny boost from
All American because we have a collection bin in our office for them.

San Mateo Police Athletic League (PAL)
San Mateo PAL believes that by fostering positive interactions and
developing lasting relationships between police officers and youth, they
are developing better citizens for the future. Equipment associated with
their numerous outdoor and sport activities is housed at All American.

San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce (SMACC)
A strong partner to the business community, the SMACC is dedicated to
bringing economic growth in the form of jobs and sales tax to San Mateo.
By far, one of the largest and most active Chambers on the Peninsula,
SMACC is the hub for the area's largest employer, non-profits and small
businesses. Mr. Kenney served on the Board of Directors of this
organization.

Peninsula Humane Society/SPCA
PHS/SPCA, a private non-profit organization guided by the humane ethic, builds healthy relationships between people and animals. Each year thousands of animals pass through our doors. Since 2003, 100% of their healthy animals have been adopted.
Last year, they received more than 8,500 dogs, cats and other pet animals as well as thousands of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Each year they provide a warm bed, nutritious food, veterinary care and a gentle touch for these animals. As an ethical choice to provide safe sanctuary for every animal in need and, since they are contracted with all cities in San Mateo County, they lack control over the number of incoming animals. They accept all animals, and often provide a second chance to the neediest – those who would otherwise be turned away at so-called “no kill” agencies that accept only highly adoptable animals.
They’re definition of “healthy” is based on the State’s definition: dogs and cats without medical or behavioral issues, fully weaned and social. It excludes obviously unhealthy animals (those with injuries and illnesses or those behaviorally scarred from past treatment and mistreatment) as well as unweaned kittens and feral cats. Sadly, in some cases like the ones mentioned above, all we can provide is a painless ending when resources have been exhausted. While we cannot save every treatable animal, we place every healthy animal into a new home.
Staff, volunteers and supporters are equally proud of the fact that they make well, then adopt, between 100-150 treatable animals every month.

Energy Efficient Lighting
As lights in each unit burn out, they are being replaced with compact
fluorescent lights to lower energy consumption. Burned out light bulb in
your unit? If you're visiting during office hours, pick up your cell
phone, dial 650-376-0775 and we'll send one of the guys over to replace it.
Cardboard Recycling
FOR CUSTOMERS ONLY
Lots of cardboard or a big box? - Allied Waste requires you to trim your
cardboard down to smaller pieces. But, if you don't have the time or the
patience, pop it into your car and drop it off at our recycling station
on the south end of building G on your next visit.
Turf Replacement
In the next few months, we will replace the grass along Third Avenue
with artificial turf and reduce water usage for maintaining that area.
